Mimi as we like to call him is a Cross Irish Draught/Thoroughbred with all the strength of the Irish Draught and the hot head of the Thoroughbred. Born in Scotland in 1993, he was raised as a companion foal until he became a competing Eventer. We brought him to Spain when he was 6 years old and he's still with us as fresh as a daisy.
Alias Lioness Mollie came to us in 2006 to do Horse Assisted Therapy. From the moment she arrived she put fear into the hearts of the other horses on the yard. She was always good with people, a star when it came to her therapy work. Fortunately she has calmed down with age, nearly 30 now, and she lives in a herd with Ecolo, Midnight and Tinker.
Born in 1997, she was originally called Lady Lily after a Camelot character. She came to us in 2007 accompanied by a little pony nicknamed Shrek. Lily was always gentle with the people around her and protected Shrek as if she was her foal. We soon found that she had quite a temper when it came to defending her territory.
Tango joined us in 2008, handsome but crazy. It seems he had been trained as a bullfighting horse - we didn't understand him and he didn't understand us either. In the end we discovered that he was willing to learn and he loved forming part of the herd. He was very sociable and playful. Today he enjoys his retirement as a companion horse.
We rescued Copito ( Snowflake) He was in a terrible state, undernourished. He had lived long periods without food. In fact today he suffers from the aftereffects. He windsucks to fill his stomach and then has wind colics. He has colics every time the weather changes - a walking barometre.
She was our second real rescue. She was to have been a broodmare, mother to a new bloodline but her first foal died shortly after birth and she started showing signs of problems with her hips. The vet said that she was not a good mare for breeding and her owner took the decision, instead of euthanasia, to leave her in the hands of people he could trust to treat her well and not to use her for breeding. He came to us as we were about to create Cavalli Foundation and Sabba has lived happily with us since 2012.
Pitusa was part of a big rescue operation undertaken by the police in 2014. She should have been taken to a rescue centre in the north of Spain but an accident that happened during the journey meant she had to stay at Cavalli for treatment and rehab. A few months later she gave birth to a perfectly formed healthy foal - a miracle bearing in mind the conditions she had lived in and the medication she had been given to treat her injury.
Sandros, although we love to call him Samson, is an ex champion show jumper that couldn't continue in competition because of injuries. He was retired from showjumping and his owner asked Cavalli Foundation to take care of him in his retirement. He's been with the Foundation for 4 years.
India was rescued with her daughter Sophie and a big group of horses, ponies, donkeys and farm animals. She was born in 2000. She arrived in terrible condition, extremely thin, we didn’t think she wasn’t going to survive as she was so weak from still feeding her foal. Fortunately, in time, she gained weight and she is now our pupils’ favourite pony.
Daisy is the last of a big group of animals rescued over the years by Cavalli Foundation. She ́s timid and doesn't trust people very much. She was in foster care with Sophie until we gained her confidence, just enough to bring her and Sophie walking over to the foundation.. Daisy is also about 7 years old and still in Rehab.
Donkeys Lucero y Sol are the last members of the Cavalli Foundation herd to arrive. They are brothers by the same mother but with about a year between them. It was a squeeze but we managed to find room for them and here they are, a right pair of characters that delight the children with their games and tricks.
